Therapy for children & support with parenting:
Parenting is hard when your child is dealing with emotional issues such as anxiety, low mood, or anger. It is upsetting to watch your child struggle with difficult thoughts and feelings, and to be unable to help them. Your child might have difficulties managing their emotions, or show aggression or behaviour problems. These issues see you needing to adapt your parenting - but you've tried everything and nothing has worked for long. These issues will understandably be affecting your home life, relationships, mood and confidence. It is isolating and lonely dealing with these challenges, when other parents seem to have a very different type of child to yours.
Following the initial assessment, we will create a bespoke, evidence-based psychological intervention that is engaging and child-friendly. For behavioural issues, we will work with you to understand your child's strengths, challenges, triggers and motivators, which can guide us in developing effective strategies for a calmer, happier home. An important part of the work will be to support you alongside the child-focused work, as we know that your child's issues will likely impact your own emotional wellbeing.
Common treatments we offer: therapy for child anxiety (including phobias and worry), low mood or low self esteem, support with ADHD, and managing behaviour problems, tantrums, aggression, sleep issues and toileting.
What happens first?
First, contact us using the web form or phone number, and your therapist will reply to you to arrange a free telephone consultation. They will find out about the main issues you are seeking support for, tell you about how they work and answer any questions you have. You and your child will then be invited to attend clinic for an initial assessment appointment, but this can be arranged online if preferred. This extended appointment is an opportunity to explore your child's main difficulty, how the issue started and what keeps it going. With this understanding, you and your therapist can work out whether we are the most appropriate service for you, and if so - consider the therapy targets and propose a bespoke treatment plan for your child. If we think your child's difficulties might benefit from a different approach, we will recommend other services that may be more suitable.
Regular therapy:
Depending on your child's age and difficulties, therapy sessions may be one to one with them, or involve parents/a parent.

- Under 10s - for this age range most interventions will involve parents or carers, meaning that we do not work only with the child. This is because evidence finds this to be the most effective treatment method, where parents become co-therapists who can support their child to apply therapy strategies between sessions.
- 11-18s - for young people over 10 years old, interventions can be arranged online or in person.
